Event Details – On Friday 11/4, we will be screening Dawnland which is an Emmy® winning documentary film on stolen children and cultural survival. Dawnland goes behind the scenes about the first government-sanctioned Truth and Reconciliation commission (TRC) in the United States. This work takes place over the course of two years where Native and non-Native commissioners travel across Maine. They gather testimony and bear witness to the devastating impact of the state’s child welfare practices on families in the Wabanaki Confederacy which includes: Maliseet, Micmac, Passamaquoddy and Penobscot communities. Learn more about the film here!
Additionally, on Friday, there will be information sharing on the Truth & Reconciliation Commission work across Michigan and dinner will be provided. On Saturday 11/5, we will be hosting a Boarding School Healing Talking Circle. All events will take place at the Niiwin Akeaa Community Center in Baraga, MI.
